Yes, When It Comes to Skyscraper Sized Turbines.
Whilst we all favour renewable energy, a proposal currently backed by Orkney Islands Council would be entirely detrimental to the rich natural character and heritage of Orkney because of their unacceptable size.
The proposal for this development featured a distant image of windmills, deliberately without any guide to their relative size in an effort to mask the reality and deceive Orcadian people. The image below depicts farmland in South Ronaldsay with houses to identify the true scale of what is proposed. For many it is difficult to imagine 125m vertical height; this image clearly shows a 41 story building of that height.
The planning application contravenes the following policies:
The Orkney Development Plan to be adopted on or about 12 April 2017 (ODP 2017); the OIC Supplementary Guidance: Energy (SGE 2017); and the OIC/SNH Orkney Landscape Capacity Assessment (OLCA 2015).
